Quakers in Russia

Friends House Moscow Board

During Quaker Week, Mary and Peter Morris visited Dundee Meeting, where Mary gave a talk on the history of Quakers in Russia – from George Fox’s letters to the Tsar, through the shipyards of the Dutch East India Company and the Dukhobor Spirit Wrestlers of the Volga, via Leo Tolstoy’s Quaker daughter-in-law to relief work in Bolshevik Russia, and the present day Friends House Moscow.

Two weeks later Mary was in Moscow at the annual Board meeting of Friends House Moscow, held in the Baptist Seminary. The Board is composed of Quakers coming from Britain, the USA, Russia and Germany. The good news is that this year FHM is able to fund two exciting new projects, thanks in large part to the generosity of British Friends including our own Area Meeting.
